Another hot day here Wednesday with the temperature again into the high 80’s and not even a breeze which makes it seem doubly hot – but, we’re not complaining! It’s perfect.
Wednesday was also the last day for Paulette’s Quilting Group up at the North Hall. I guess the group has dwindled from close to 20 down to only a half-dozen or so as a lot of snowbirds have headed back home. They celebrated by ordering in pizza for lunch and Paulette brought a chocolate cake for dessert. They had actually toyed with the idea of inviting their spouses to the lunch but I shot that idea down before it even got airborne!!
As I was sitting outside this afternoon, I was thinking about which of the gizmo-gadgets I brought with us this year has turned out to be the most valuable. For those of you who are not retired yet, these are the kinds of monumental and difficult decisions us retired folks are required to contemplate on a daily basis. It’s actually true – ask any retired person you know.
Anyway, I had to choose between an iTouch, a Verizon usb760 Aircard, a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router or my Sony PRS-550 eBook Reader.
I never had any of these items for our previous 2 winter vacations here in Desert Hot Springs. I have used each of these devices extensively during our trip so it took me a while to pick one.
In the end, my Most Valuable Gizmo(MVG) went to the usb760 Aircard because it allowed for a broadband Internet connection wherever we happened to be. This came in particularly handy when we were unable to get a good, consistent signal from our RV Park’s WiFi system.
The eBook is great and a close second to the usb760. As for the iTouch, it’s terrific and I love being able to take it anywhere we go but it’s still basically a handy backup unit to our laptop computers. As for the Cradlepoint router, it allows both Paulette and I to connect both our laptops to the Internet at the same time, but, without the usb760 plugged in, the router isn’t of any use.
Have a great Thursday, and thanks again for visiting!
