An Interesting Day Of Garage Sales

The Sands RV Resort had their last “Free Pancake Breakfast” of the season yesterday, and of course, Paulette and I were there bright and early just after 8am.  We weren’t the first one’s though, as this park has a lot of very early risers.  The breakfast was good, as usual, with all you can eat pancakes, ham, grapefruit and coffee.  That’s it for pancake breakfasts this year, I guess, as things here at the Sands start to wind down pretty fast once April arrives – it gets too darn hot!

We ran across a “Flea Market” in Palm Springs – Paulette has radar for these things!IMG_5749

Once we got back to our RV, it wasn’t long before we were all in the truck and headed to Palm Springs for another Saturday morning of checking out Garage Sales.  Molly and Rylie are getting right into this garage sale thing and look forward to getting out of the truck and exploring every time we stop someplace.

While Paulette was ‘flea-marketing’ I took a couple of pics in downtown Palm SpringsIMG_5750

Actually, I kind of enjoyed yesterday’s garaging too as we ended up in a couple of interesting places and ran across some unexpected sights.  For instance, at one house, along with all the usual junk and stuff, there was a little 1957 Metropolitan Nash for sale.  It was in great condition and the owner told us the car was once driven in a movie by Nicholas Cage.  Hmmm??  No proof of that so we crossed that one off our buy list!!

We followed some signs to another place and just happened to stumble across a street where a bunch of folks were just heading out for a drive in their antique Studebaker automobiles.  One of them was a 1926 Studebaker and was having some problems getting started.  Another guy lifted up the hood allowing me to get a good look, and a picture – engines were sure a lot simpler then.  A few screw turns and the old 1926 Studebaker was soon chugging down the road.

There were a few old Studebaker’s parked along the street and it was really neat to see the owners start them up and head off down the road for a Saturday morning drive in their bright, shiny motorcars!

After leaving the surprise car show, we headed east on Hwy. 111 where we spotted a sign pointing to a road that headed up a steep canyon.  We never did find the house that was having the garage sale, but we did dead-end at a place that gave us a great view of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley including Desert Hot Springs.

A high dead-end road offered a great view of Palm SpringsIMG_5757

As we stood outside our truck looking at the view, I noticed a strange looking little house, made of rocks, that was nestled right down in the canyon – all by itself.  It looked to be occupied too as I could make out a beat up old VW van parked outside.  Something left over from the ‘60’s?

That was it for the exciting world of garage sales as far as I was concerned, but Paulette did manage to find a few items she thought were worth buying.  Luckily, they were very small so I don’t have to worry about finding a place to store them.

We got back to the RV Park about 1pm, just in time to have some lunch and then spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying our usual routine of going for a swim and sitting outside reading or just having a short siesta.  It was another day in the high 80’s, so it was pretty much perfect.

We barbequed dinner again last night, this time it was Pork Chops with hot barbeque sauce for me and a milder one for Paulette – they were very tasty!  Last night, we just watched a movie on TV and called it a night around 10pm.

Have a great Sunday, and thanks again for visiting!
