Our Last Full Week At The Sands RV Resort!

I mentioned in Sunday’s blog that this is the beginning of our last full week here in Desert Hot Springs.  It’s hard to believe that we are, in fact, coming up on 3 full months and next Tuesday, April 6th, we’ll be pulling up stakes and headed off to Arizona and our first stop in Gila Bend.

So, not having done too much today, I spent some time this afternoon thinking about what I should blog about and nothing much popped into my head.  It was just one of those days!  I did spend a bit of time thinking back over all the wonderful times we’ve had over the past three months though and came up with a short list.

Now, this is my list and Paulette may have different reasons altogether.  I know she’d have some kind of quilting thing in there for sure.  Here’s my list:

1.  The Weather:  The weather here is consistently hot, sunny and dry.  Sure, the wind howls once in a while, but we’ve become accustomed to that and simply find something else to do on those days.  Rain is a very rare occurrence in the Palm Springs area and is somewhat of a novelty on the few days we do have some rain.

2.  The Dog Park:  This might seem to be a very strange thing to rank as my #2 attraction but, with our dogs Molly and Rylie, our twice daily trips to the park are definitely a lot of fun for all of us.  It’s also the place where we socialize the most with other RV’ers staying here at the Sands.  We’ve met lots of great folks during the past 3 months and the great majority of them have been through taking the muttzo’s to the dog park.

3.  The Swimming Pool:  I love the swimming pool and the jacuzzi’s.  The idea of being able to swim outdoors in January is still quite a novelty for me.  The pool is big, the water temperature is perfect, the view over the golf course and the dozens of Palm Trees is just spectacular. It’s just a very nice place to spend a hot, sunny afternoon.

4.  Day Trips:  Desert Hot Springs is close to many great places to visit and a lot of major attractions.  Just this year, we have made day trips to Coronado Del Mar in San Diego, Joshua Tree NP, Santa Monica Beach, the Anzo Borrego Desert, the towns of Idyllwild and Julian as well as many, many other places.  There seems to be no end to great places to visit and have fun for a day.

5.  Canyon Hikes:  This is an activity I just started this year and it has been a lot of fun.  It’s great exercise and has provided me a lot of opportunities to practice my photography skills.  I’ve had great hikes through the Big Morongo Park Preserve, Thousand Palms, Indian Canyon, Tahquitz Canyon as well as others.  I’m looking forward to a few more challenging hikes next year.

There are many other reasons why both Paulette and I will be returning next year.  One thing I’ve left out that many may wonder about is the Park’s social activities.  To many RV’ers, this is one of the major attractions of any park they stay at.  It’s not for me.  Other than the occasional Pancake Breakfast, we’ve skipped all the normal Resort activities such as Happy Hours, Pot-Luck Dinners, Dances, Games, Golf Tournaments and all the other organized fun things that most Resorts encourage.  Personally, I can’t stand those things and much prefer the folks I meet by chance at the dog park or pool.

Have a great Tuesday, and thanks again for visiting!
