Our Final Temecula Trip – For This Year!

Paulette’s weekly quilting club has packed in their weekly get-togethers for another year here, so yesterday she found herself with absolutely nothing planned for the day.  Paulette had mentioned last week that she would like to make one more trip down to the Quilter’s Coop in Temecula – her favourite quilt shop in the whole world!  So, I said we might as well go now as we may not get another chance before we leave next Tuesday – Paulette was in the truck in a flash!!

Everything on this table was selling for $1 – a bargain Paulette couldn’t resist.IMG_5830

The drive to Temecula is only a little over an hour and it’s one I always like.  After traveling west on I-10 for about 30 minutes, we turned south onto Hwy 79 at Beaumont and then drove down through Hemet before arriving at Temecula’s Old Town.  There is a lot of nice scenery between Beaumont and Temecula on Hwy 79 as the first part is pretty winding and has a lot of those hills covered in huge boulder formations.

The Old Temecula Jail was hidden in a side street squareIMG_5834

As we got closer to Hemet, the landscape turned more into farmland with a few ranches scattered about.  There isn’t much in the way of desert around Hemet and Temecula, it’s much more green and lush.  In fact, one of the main industries in Temecula is Wineries.  The area is loaded with vineyards and there are several Winery Tours operating in, and around, Temecula.

I’m sure one of these guys is Al, not sure of the other – Jerry, maybe?IMG_5837

We drove down Front St. in Temecula’s Old Town until we got to the Quilter’s Coop where I found a parking spot right on the street – it’s all free parking too.  We agreed to meet back at the truck in an hour, then I took Molly and Rylie and we headed back along the board sidewalk to do some exploring and looking at all of the old buildings and attractions.

What is an Emigrant Office?  IMG_5838

We’ve visited Temecula several times, yet I always find it interesting and most times see things that I’ve missed on previous visits.  For instance, yesterday I followed a sign pointing down an old alley and it opened into a square which housed the original Temecula Jail dating back to the 1860’s.  I don’t know how I missed this before but I did.  I even spotted a couple of old friends “in the clink”!!

According to Marty Robbins, Rosa’s Cantina was ‘down in the old Texas town of El Paso’IMG_5842

I spotted another old building, on a side street, that kind of intrigued me as the sign said it was the “Emigrant Office”.  I don’t know if that was an old, or mistaken, spelling of “immigrant” or not.  I was going to Google it to find out but I never got around to it.  Maybe a blog reader will know what it means and let us all know.

We just had to order a couple of Mad Madeline’s cheeseburgers to goIMG_5847

After meeting up with Paulette, our last stop was Mad Madeline’s to order a couple of cheeseburgers to go.  As much as Molly and Rylie would loved to have tried one of the 2 dozen or so different hamburger selections, we had to tell them, again, that they are dogs, and are not allowed in restaurants.

After eating our cheeseburgers, we headed straight back to Desert Hot Springs and got there just before 3pm.  We just spent the rest of the afternoon taking it easy, reading and going to the park with Molly and Rylie.  Same old, same old last night – TV, computers and reading.  A pretty good day all around!

Have a great Thursday, and thanks again for visiting!
