A Real Shaker And Preparations To Leave on Tuesday

nn_nat_quake_100404.grid-2x2First, the shaker.  Paulette and I were just sitting around in the 5’er yesterday afternoon and thinking about taking Molly and Rylie to the dog park, when right at 3:42pm our 5’er started shaking and it wasn’t from the wind!!  It was a 7.2 magnitude earthquake centered about 108 miles east of Tijuana, Mexico.  The quake lasted about 30 seconds, it started slow then built in intensity until our whole rig was shaking back and forth.

Just when we thought it might even get worse, it stopped.  Immediately, everyone was out of their 5’ers, MH’s and park models and into the streets asking questions like “did you feel that?”, “was that an earthquake”?  It sure was, and a strong one to boot, as it caused high rise buildings in Los Angeles and San Diego to sway.  As Paulette said when we got back inside “it’s time to get outta Dodge”!

Everything was very quiet and serene before the earthquake hit.IMG_5863

Our preparations to leave our winter snowbird haven here at the Sands RV Park are really starting to move into high gear now.  Tuesday morning is coming up fast and we still have a fair bit of packing and stowing left to do.  It’s surprising how much stuff you can put outside in a patio for a three month stay!

Seeing actual lemon trees growing in yards is still a pretty neat thing to us!IMG_5870

Sunday morning, Paulette took a big load of laundry up to the Laundromat to get that all done.  While she was doing that, I got our little MasterCraft Air Compressor out, checked the air pressure on all 4 tires on our 5’er and topped them up to the correct 80psi.  When Paulette got back from the Laundromat, I did the same with the 4 tires on the truck – 60psi for the front and 80psi for the back tires.

We are going to miss all of these majestic Palm Trees after we head homeIMG_5866

I love this little air compressor!  It’s compact, easy to use and came with a 25’ air hose that allows me to fill the tires on each side of the 5’er without carting the compressor over to the other side.  I guess with the wheels and sliding handle, moving it around to the other side wouldn’t be all that difficult anyway – but, this just seems easier.

This is the perfect little unit for tires on a truck and 5’erIMG_5888

We decided that we aren’t going to be doing any BBQ’ing for the next 2 days, so I cleaned up the grill and stowed the Weber Q and the small 8lb propane tank in the front storage compartment.  It took me a while to figure out how I had managed to safely stow everything in there on the way down.  It didn’t want to go back in  so easily.  I should have taken a picture of it when we left so I wouldn’t forget how I did it.  After a few tries, I did manage to figure it out and everything seems secure.

More lemons, this time just lying on the ground – too bad!IMG_5871

With the BBQ stowed away, and being just too hot to cook inside, we decided to order Pizza for dinner last night.  A lot of folks here have been talking about a new pizza place called “Rocky’s New York Pizza” and they all said it was really good – and it was owned by an Italian family.  So, we tried it, and it was just excellent with a perfect, thin crust and just the right amount of sauce.  We still have enough left over for lunch.

Last night, we just watched TV, browsed on our computers and waited for any aftershocks that might happen – all was quiet though!

Have a great Monday, and thanks again for visiting!
