Palm Springs Celebrity Bus Tour

Slideshow of All Today's Images

Paulette and I went 'full-tourist' today and took the Celebrity Bus Tour of Palm Springs. It was a 2 ½ hour tour that took us around the entire area with the bus operator giving us the history of Palm Springs and, of course, information about the celebrities and their residences.

On the tour, we saw the homes of dozens of celebrities(most now deceased) who either lived full-time in Palm Springs or had vacation homes here. There are far too many to list all of the celebrities' homes we saw, but here are a just a few of the names that we can remember: Frank Sinatra(now owned by Jimmy Pattison), Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Liberace, Jack Benny, Greta Garbo, Judy Garland, Humphrey Bogart, Kathleen Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Lauren Bacall, Ginger Rogers, Kenny Rogers, Arnold S., Sonny Bono, Trini Lopez, Mary Pickford, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Mickey Rooney, Dinah Shore, Debbie Reynolds, Phillis Diller, Susanne Somers, Groucho Marx, Red Skelton, Milton Berle, Gene Autry, Merv Griffin as well as Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. And this list is by no means complete.

As the buses are not allowed to stop in front of the homes, it was kind of hard to get a good picture of them while the bus was moving. Surprisingly, most of the homes are situated very close to the street, sometimes just ten to twenty feet from the sidewalk, so it was quite easy to get a good view of most of the residences. The houses aren't the kinds of mansions one sees in Beverley Hills - but they aren't 'summer cottages' either. For the most part, the homes are one-story structures that are very roomy, have beautifully landscaped grounds, courtyards and, of course, swimming pools.

By the time the tour ended, we were glad to get back to the RV park as it was another picture perfect day here - mid 80's and not a cloud in the sky. As soon as we got back to the park, we picked up Mo and Molly from Tom and Donna's. They had kindly agreed to be the "dog-sitters" while we were on the bus tour. Then, we headed for the swimming pool to cool off and enjoy the great weather.

We invited both T's and D's over for a barbeque tonight - hamburgers, salads etc. and Arkansas Donna brought over a Blueberry Crumble and Ice Cream - that was a perfect end to dinner as it was simply delicious.

Tomorrow morning, we are going with Arkansas Tom and Donna to take a drive through the Joshua National Park just north of Palm Springs. T1 & D1 have kindly agreed to look after Mo and Molly again tomorrow morning.
