"Depend on the rabbit's foot if you will, but remember it didn't work for the rabbit." (R E Shay)

I noticed that lately, our impatiens in the front yard were looking somewhat devoid of color, and then, two nights ago, I discovered a large rabbit sitting very still amidst the flowers eating every one of them and leaving just the foliage.
Rabbits look like adorable creatures until you’re a gardener, and then you realize that they wreak havoc on it. They try to camouflage themselves by sitting very still and you truly don’t always realize they’re there unless you’re really scrutinizing the area.

We had a beautiful delphinium flower with majestic blue color that we just loved, but one day, we came outside and the stems were all lying on the sidewalk. They didn’t eat the whole thing, they just cut the entire plant down to the nub, and left it sitting on the ground. I don’t quite understand the significance of that, or WHY they do that, but now, any time I see plant stalks on the ground, I’m pretty convinced a rabbit has had a hand in it.
My favorite neighbor came to visit me last night with a tiny baby rabbit cradled in his hands, and I took his picture. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that when they grow up, they demolish our garden! I know deer are supposed to be even worse, so I can't complain, but I am simultaneously frustrated and fascinated by them.

“The rabbit has a charming face:
Its private life is a disgrace.
I really dare not name to you
The awful things that rabbits do.” (-unknown)
