Downtown Palm Springs

Paulette and I have settled into a fairly normal routine here, so other than the great weather, swims in the pool and the occasional sightseeing, life is pretty ordinary and we don't really have anything too exciting to write about most days.

For example, on Monday morning, I took the truck into a local GM dealership in Cathedral City for an oil change and service. In the afternoon, we went to Walmart and Costco to do some grocery shopping etc., and of course, there's always the job of taking Mo and Molly for walks. It's pretty much the same kind of stuff we do when we're home, but in a totally different environment altogether.

On Tuesday though, I met up with Len Vopnfjord, an old friend from my City Hall days. He and I both retired in 1999 and e've only seen each other a few times since then. Len had heard that we were staying in the Palm Springs area so he e-mailed me last week about getting together for lunch. We met in downtown Palm Springs and because it was another beautiful, warm day we were sat outside on the sidewalk patio of a nice Mexican restaurant. We had a great time catching up on what we've been up to since retiring 10 years ago.

Downtown Palm Springs is actually a lot smaller than downtown Victoria. It's very easy to walk from one end of the main street, Palm Canyon Dr., to the other in 15-20 minutes. It's pretty much restaurants, bars, coffee shops and small specialty stores(clothing, jewellery etc).

While I was in Palm Springs enjoying lunch, Paulette was back at the park looking after Mo and Molly and catching up on some sewing and reading. Wednesday morning, she is going to a quilting club here at the park clubhouse. It will be interesting to see how that compares to the quilting groups she belongs to at home.

The rest of our week looks to be more of the same, the weather forecast continues to be solid sunshine and warming weather so we'll be spending a lot of time swimming and just relaxing in the sun.
