Off To Arizona

Early Monday morning, we're heading off to Arizona for the big Tucson Gem Show. Paulette has been looking forward to this event all year. We are going to be meeting up with Gary and Sandy Lowery, friends from Duncan, B.C., so that Paulette and Sandy can visit the Gem Shows together.

We're in for a totally new experience in camping too as we've decided not to take our 5th wheel with us to Tucson. Our campsite here is all setup with the dog fence, the outdoor mats and everything else and it just didn't seem worth all the work involved in moving just for a 2 night stay in Tucson. So, instead, we are going to be renting a 1-room Kamping Kabin at the KOA in Benson, AZ just about 30 minutes from Tucson. It certainly is reasonable at $46 a night and the big thing is they allow pets.

As far as I know, the Kabins don't have much in the way of amenities, in fact, you have to bring your own bedding - which is preferable to us anyway! It's only for two nights and first thing Wednesday morning we will be making the 6 hour drive back here to Desert Hot Springs.

This is a very difficult place to leave though, even for just 3 days. The last 4 days have been absolutely perfect -hot, sunny with not even a wisp of a cloud to be seen in any direction. The majority of our time has been spent right here in the RV Park mostly enjoying the sun and swimming in the pool.

We have ventured out to do a little sightseeing. This morning, we drove into Palm Springs and had a look at some of the homes in the ritzy areas:

Most of the streets around the Palm Springs area are very picturesque, completely lined with tall palm trees on both sides of the street:

We also drove by the little Mexican restaurant where I had lunch last week.

We ended up out in the desert and took a long 45 minute drive back to our RV Park competely avoiding the freeway and all the traffic. It's always surprising to see how quickly one gets from 'civilization' to complete desert wilderness in just a few minutes - water makes all the difference down here. If water runs out, this place is toast - literally!!

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday which is a lot bigger deal down here than it is at home. There is a Super Bowl party in the clubhouse this afternoon to watch the game on the big screen. I'm going to skip that though and watch it on our tv here in our 5th wheel. Paulette is taking advantage of the 'big game' to go shopping! Surprise, surprise!

She made a new friend, Judy, at her quilting get-together last week and they are going to go into Desert Sands to check out a few of their favourite quilting stores as they are having Super Bowl sales.

So, Monday morning we're off to Tucson and Benson, AZ and hopefully a comfortable 2 nights in our "Kabin".
