An Evening With Friends

Palm Springs returned to it's normal fantastic weather today - warm and sunny! This afternoon, Paulette and I were able to spend some time in the swimming pool for the first time in several days. A big storm hit all of California last weekend causing abnormally cool temperatures and a full day of rain on Monday. The skies cleared on Tuesday and it really warmed up today so that's great!

Last night, Paulette and I visited our friends from Victoria, Len and Karen Vopnfjord, for a barbeque at the home they are staying at in Rancho Mirage - we had a terrific evening.

From Palm Springs - Feb. 5-7

Len and Karen are taking advantage of a three month "house-swap" arrangement - their home in Victoria for the one here in Rancho Miarage. The home in Rancho Mirage is in a gated community and is just beautiful, lot's of privacy and very tastefully decorated. There are tennis courts and three swimming pools - a pretty nice deal indeed.

After dinner, Len and Karen surprised us by getting out a guitar and singing a few old folk songs as well as some of their very own compositions. They told us they had been singing together since their teens including several years touring professionally in a folk group trio. Both of their sons are also talented and successful musicians. While they were growing up, the family formed a band and toured the country even performing before a few Canadian Prime Ministers including Pierre Trudeau.

Paulette and I have invited Len and Karen to our place in Sands RV Park for another barbeque and they have promised to bring their guitars with them so we are really looking forward to that. We are getting more and more friends and family here in the park, so we're going to have a ready made audience for them.

Tom and Donna's daughter Diana flew in yesterday, from Victoria, for 10 days. The day before, Roy and Diana arrived for a one month stay - Diana is Donna's twin sister. Also, friends of Tom and Diana from Arizona also booked into the park yesterday - all three units are parked together just a few streets down from us here at the Sands. So, with Gary and Sandy, we now have quite a contingent here from B.C.

Paulette and Sandy have been really busy this week making necklaces and bracelets using the new techniques they learned at the class they took last week. Paulette is also going to the quilting group here in the RV Park every Wednesday morning, so she is managing to keep very busy doing all the crafts she does at home.

So, with the great weather returning, we will be spending a lot of time out in the sunshine and around the pool.
