Before We Had Our Fifth Wheel

On the chance that someone who reads this blog may end up venturing over to Vancouver Island, I thought it might be helpful to provide a heads up about a place where our family spent some great summers before we had our fifth-wheel - the Pacific Playgrounds RV Resort & Marina near Campbell River, B.C.

We used to rent one of the 2 bedroom cottages situated along the banks of the Oyster River, which flows through the park before emptying into the ocean. If it were not for the fact we have to go to Alberta for our daughter's wedding this July, we'd definitely be heading up to this beautiful RV Park for a few weeks, this time with our fifth wheel - who knows, we may still fit it in!

Each of the RV sites here includes a picnic table, fire ring and your choice of power and water only, or full service which includes sewer and cable. Wifi is available to all of the sites. There is also a convenience store that sells the best ice cream cones on the Island - that was always a huge highlight of our holidays there - we always looked forward to this after dinner treat!

Want to cool off a bit? There are three great choices - the swimming pool, the river or the ocean. Pacific Playgrounds is right beside two of the Island's nicest east side beaches - Saratoga and Miracle. There are miles and miles of sandy beaches to enjoy.

Fishing is a big attraction too - there is a full marina for those who want to go out into the straits to fish, or, each morning sees lots of anglers fishing along the banks of the river right from their campsites and they all seem to do quite well. It's common to sit on the deck and see fish jumping in the river.

This is truly a little bit of heaven, and along with the Beachcomber RV Park near Victoria, is one of the reasons we really don't normally leave the Island in the summer. It's pretty hard to beat these RV Parks for a great summertime camping holiday!
