Friday Chores and Odd Jobs

Early Friday morning, Paulette told me that she had to go outside at 3:30am to turn off the waterfall pump in our backyard pond. She said it was making a real racket and figured something was wrong with it – I didn't hear a thing. So, I went out, pulled the pump out of the pond, took the base plate off and had a look. It looked o.k. to me and nothing was plugging up the intakes which is usually the cause of any problems.

Our 'Little Giant' Waterfall Pond Pump

So, I just took the garden hose and gave it a good cleaning, put it back in the pond, plugged it in and away it went – silently, thank goodness. It’s a Little Giant pump and they are very expensive – around $300-$400 – so, if it fails, we just might have a very quiet pond for a while.

The waterfall is bubbling and gurgling the way it should

After that, it was time to drive out to the garbage transfer station to get rid of our 7-10 day collection of big, green bags. We have a weekly curbside pickup here, but I cancelled it because we're away so much now – it just wasn’t worth the cost. Besides, I’ve always liked going to the garbage dump – I don’t’ know why, there’s just something that feels good about it to me.

My next job was cutting the front and back lawns. I’ve had the slide out on our 5th wheel in the driveway for the last few weeks, so while I’ve been cutting the grass with my John Deere tractor mower, I just drove around the slider. Paulette wasn’t too impressed with that as the grass was pretty long and scraggly looking under the slide. So, I had to get out my hand mower and soon that grass was down to regulation size and all was well again.

Leaving grass growing under the slider isn't cool!

My final job for the day was vacuuming – which I really hate. But, while I was out doing my other jobs, Paulette was busy washing floors, cleaning bathrooms and dusting etc. My job is vacuuming – so, with that done, I was finished for the day! Except for the usual things like taking Molly and Rylie for their daily walks - but, that's not really a job at all.
