I took this picture with my new cellphone yesterday

I'm kind of a creature of habit, so even though I've been retired for 10 years and no longer work down in Victoria, I still go to the same barber shop. In fact, I've had my haircut by the same lady, Sally, for 30 years now. Sally has moved a few times in the last 30 years and I just move along with her. We have a great understanding - no hair spray, no oil, no gel and no "poofy" blow drying. Just squirt a bit of water on my hair, cut it, and leave it!

After my haircut, it was off to Iris Optometrists. It was the usual eye examination with dark rooms, lots of equipment, squinting at little letters, puffs of air in my eyes and, of course, the eye drops. When it was all over, it turns out that my vision hasn't changed very much at all since my last exam about 3 years ago. Also, no sign of glaucoma, cataracts or any other kinds of problems. I am going to get a new pair of glasses though as my current ones are beaten and scratched beyond repair and I don't have a spare set. If I lost them down south - then what?

The optometrist's office staff sure put a lot of pressure on trying to get me to buy their progressive lenses, which I have now, and a set of frames. It was almost like being on a used car lot. Iris' cost for lenses and frames was around $950. On the way home, I went to Costco and found that I can get the same Essilor lenses and frames for about $450. So, guess where I'm going to be getting my new glasses? I couldn't order them yesterday though, because Paulette insists on seeing them first - she says if she leaves it to me I'll just buy the cheapest, and probably ugliest, frames they've got! She may be right about that as all I care about is being able to see.

While I was south in Victoria, Paulette headed north towards Nanaimo with muttso's Molly and Rylie to drop Molly off for grooming. Paulette's niece, Heather, runs a dog grooming business out of her home. After leaving Molly with Heather, Paulette and Rylie went to visit her older brother, Glen, who lives in a nearby retirement home.

Paulette already knew it was o.k. to take Rylie in and she said that turned out to be a real treat for the old folks there. As soon as she walked in with Rylie, staff members came up, asked if they could take Rylie around to visit some of the residents and off they went. Paulette said it was a good half hour before Glen and her finally went looking for Rylie and found her in the main sitting room of the home surrounded by a group of elderly residents who were taking turns holding her. Paulette said that Rylie really ate up all the attention too - what a ham!
So, it was nice to get a few lingering tasks accomplished yesterday. Nothing great on the horizon, so it's back to normal and just taking it easy.
