Out With the Old & In With the New

Since it was safe to venture out yesterday without the risk of getting heat stroke, I went to our local cellphone store to look for a new phone. Paulette lost her cellphone, about a week ago, and we haven't been able to find it anywhere. I wanted to get her a replacement, both for safety reasons, and also because there were still 2 years remaining on her phone contract so we'd be paying anyway!

As luck would have it, I was due for a free phone upgrade from Telus, our cell provider, so the timing was perfect. I spent some time researching cellphones on the Internet Thursday night and knew the phone I wanted - the Motorola RAZR VE20.

So, once my new VE20 was all setup and ready to go, I had the tech guy reprogram my old Motorola RAZR with the number from Paulette's lost phone - so she is now the proud owner of my 3 year old phone. Paulette really doesn't care if the phone is old or new as long as its simple to use, doesn't have any bells and whistles and has a loud ringer! The one she lost was only a year old - I just know it will show up somewhere soon!

It turned out to be a good thing in a way because I was able to cut our monthly cellphone bill in half. Before, we both had individual plans and never used our available monthly minutes. So, I switched us to a "shared" plan with the "5 favorite numbers" option that will end up being much less costly. The phone has a 2 megapixel camera which in itself is pretty amazing! It is also capable, at added cost of course, of receiving TV programs, satellite radio and hotmail - I declined all those offers. I do get free Internet browsing though I'm not sure if I'll ever use it - maybe to check sports scores or new headlines once in a while! Maybe, just maybe, I can update my blog from the phone?

That's what I call a good day - I get a new gadget to play with and we cut our phone bill by 50%. Can't beat that!
