A Pretty Typical Day

I got up a little earlier than normal on Friday morning and by 6:30am had finished editing and posting Thursday's blog entry. After that, I got another cup of coffee, then caught up on all the RV blogs I follow, as well as the regular news websites I like. This is probably my favorite time of the entire day.

By around 8:00am, after 90 minutes on the Internet, I’m ready to take Molly for a walk, have breakfast and then think about whatever it is I’m going to do for the rest of the day. Yesterday, my #1 priority was taking Paulette's Honda Odyssey into town to get a much needed lube and oil change.

I took the van to the Minute-Lube in Duncan, B.C., which is only a 10-15 minute drive north of us. Duncan is a pretty small town with a population of only 5,000. But it serves the entire Cowichan Valley, which has a population of 78,000 and includes us here in Cowichan Bay. Duncan doesn't have any of the huge shopping malls found in larger cities, but it does have the largest Walmart Supercenter in all of B.C. There are a number of other smaller retail stores too, like Canadian Tire and London Drugs, which make it a handy place for us to shop instead of having to go down to Victoria all the time.

Next, I went to the Royal Bank to buy some American money for our trip to Bellingham, WA this Tuesday to pick up Rylie, our new puppy. It'll just be a day trip - we'll get the 7:00am ferry to the mainland and probably get the 1:00pm ferry back to the Island. Luckily, the Canadian dollar has been gaining a lot against the U.S. dollar lately, and it's now worth about 92 cents. Predictions are it will probably achieve parity again by late summer - that would sure save us a lot of money for our trip to Palm Springs this winter.

Before heading home, I stopped in at the local Dairy Queen to pick up an ice cream cake for our barbeque on Sunday. Our granddaughters, Jessica and Mikayla, are big fans of ice cream cake so its always a must for any parties at our house! It's one of my favorites too!

After getting home, I cut the front lawn and did a few things in my workshop before calling it a day. Last night, I watched game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Like most fans, I thought for sure the Red Wings would win, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the Penguins take the Cup! So, that's it for hockey until next year - it's about time!
