Way Too Hot For Comfort Here!

It was a real scorcher here on the Island yesterday - up as high as 89F in some places. This is pretty much as hot as it ever gets around here. We can usually rely on a nice, cool breeze from the ocean, but yesterday even the ocean breeze was hot! Last night, we had to break out the electric fans - almost no one around here has a/c in their homes as its not really needed most of the time.

I had planned to do a bit of work outside yesterday, but I scratched that idea as soon as I opened the door to get the paper at 7:00am - it was already getting very muggy. So, what to do? Paulette went off to her weekly quilting club get together at 8:30am leaving me and Molly home to sweat it out. I found the coolest place in the house was my workshop and while having a look in there I remembered I did have a small job to do for my brother Tom and his wife Donna.

This spring they bought a very nice 2004 Pace Arrow motorhome in Quartzsite. One of the only things they found that needed to be fixed was a piece of moulding that had been damaged. The dealer ordered a new one for them from Fleetwood and had it sent to them here in Victoria. However, when it arrived it was the wrong color - a dark mahogany instead of light oak.

It figured to be a typical hassle to return it for the right color so I told them I could sand it down for them and then all they would need to do would be to apply a light oak stain and all would be well again. So, I ended up venturing outside for a bit, sanding the piece, and that little job turned out to be my one and only project of the day.

Later, it was time to relax, read a a book and just enjoy a nice easy day. It looks like this heat wave is going to be around for another day, maybe two, before things return to normal temps in the mid-70's which is just perfect here. If that's the case, today won't be a very busy day either.
