Back In the U.S.A.

We crossed the border from Canada into Idaho at 10:30am yesterday morning. We had absolutely no problems crossing as the Border Agent just asked us a few questions, checked our Passports and waved us through – maybe 2 minutes tops. From then on, the further south we drove, the hotter it got.

When we arrived at the Spokane KOA this afternoon around 3:00 pm, the temperature was in the high-90’s and very, very muggy. The first thing we did, once we got setup, was to turn on the A/C in our fifth-wheel. Shortly after that, we turned on the TV to get a weather update and were pretty shocked to see a “tornado warning” for the Sandpoint area just to the north of us – we had just driven through there an hour or so before.

Early yesterday morning , after a 10 day stay in Blairmore, we said goodbye to Erin and Rhett, wished them well on their honeymoon, and headed west. We took the Crowsnest Highway to Creston, B.C., where we turned south for the U.S. border crossing in Idaho.

The drive from the Canadian border to Spokane is very scenic and picturesque. Some of the towns have a long history associated with them, for instance - Bonner's Ferry. Further down Highway 75, we went through Sandpoint which is a very beautiful spot situated on Lake Pend Oreille.

From there, it was on to Coeur d' Alene right by the lake of the same name. Coeur d'Alene is a place I've always wanted to stay and visit but for some reason it seems we are always either coming from, or going to, someplace else. One of these trips, I'm definitely going to stop there as it is a beautiful spot. Same goes for Sandpoint now that I've seen it.

The KOA in Spokane is nice - the sites are level, have nice shade trees and are full-service. There is also a nice swimming pool and store, it's a good place for walking the dogs, but, and this is a big but – the WIFI was terrible. It’s one of those parks where you have to be near the clubhouse/pool area to get a decent signal. So, that disqualifies it for me as a keeper and I've crossed it off of my list of places to stay – it’s getting to be a fairly long list unfortunately.

Last night, we watched TV for the first time in about 10 days as the park has cable. Earlier in the evening, we walked up to the clubhouse to watch a group called the "Desert Skies" play a lot of fiddle music. They are a family and hail from New Mexico - they were pretty good.



Our first stop this morning, once we leave Spokane, will be in Reardan, WA so that Paulette can visit a quilt shop called The Buggy Barn. All I know is that this is a pretty famous and popular place with quilters, so I imagine this could be a lengthy stop. So, who knows where we'll end up stopping tonight - we won't be getting home tonight that's for sure.
