Cherry Point and Paper Mache Balloons

After breakfast Saturday, Paulette took off to drive 20 miles north to the town of Chemainus. There was some kind of a community swap 'n shop going on there yesterday - right up her alley. While Paulette was gone, I took Molly and Rylie down to Cherry Point, one of our local beaches. On clear days, it has spectacular views of Mt. Baker in Washington St. With the heat, it was a bit hazy yesterday.

Cherry Point is a great place to explore and walk around especially when the tide is out. We used to bring the kids down here quite a bit in the summer as it is a great place to relax for a couple of hours.

Plans for our daughter Erin's wedding are coming along nicely - we leave exactly 2 weeks today. It'll be great to get back out on the road for the first time since returning from Palm Springs in mid-April. Last night, Paulette was busy working on a "crafty-type" project for the wedding. She blew up about a dozen or so balloons, then got a bunch of crumpled up newspaper, mixed up a bunch of wallpaper paste and paper mache'd the balloons.

The next step will be to glue small, silk patches to the paper mache balloons and then, finally, on Erin's wedding day, she will somehow attach flowers to each one. The decorations will then be hung on Shepherd's Hooks her brother is making and will be used as decorations for the wedding. I'm sure this will turn out to be another terrific looking craft project, just like all of Paulette's other creations. I still haven't figured out how we are supposed to get 12 paper mache balloons to Alberta in our 5th wheel without crushing them.

Last night was pretty quiet around the house. I spent a few hours on chat while watching a couple of episodes of the excellent HBO series John Adams - after all, it was the 4th of July. After getting rid of all the wallpaper paste, Paulette went upstairs to her sewing room to work on the silk patches for the paper mache balloons. The TV was on but she said there was nothing worth watching. How true!

Paulette is off to a baby shower for our niece, Diana, down in Victoria this afternoon. The baby, Diana's first, is due in early August. Her sister Debbie is hosting the baby shower. Paulette is going to pick up our daughter Carrie first so that they can go together. The Tiger Woods' AT&T National Golf Tournament is on TV starting at noon our time, so I think that will be my plan for the afternoon.
