Sicamous, B.C. - A Real Hot Day!

When we pulled into the KOA in Sicamous, B.C. at 3:30pm yesterday, the temperature was 98F. It was blistering hot, so the first thing we did after getting our site setup, was to close all the windows and doors, turn on the A/C, and head for the swimming pool. After an hour in the pool, which was pretty cold, but o.k., our 5th wheel had cooled down nicely and was quite comfortable.

Everything went just fine today, which was nice as this is our first road trip since returning from Palm Springs in mid-April. We were up and out of the house at 5:15am, and arrived at the B.C. Ferry terminal in plenty of time for the 7:00am sailing to the mainland. We went up to one of the cafeterias for breakfast and Mikayla ordered Belgian Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream - they looked terrific. Mine wasn't bad either - I had the Islander Special - eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns and toast - a big change from my normal breakfast of All-Bran cereal. Paulette just settled for a muffin and coffee.

The drive to Sicamous from the ferry terminal took about 6 1/2 hours with about 90 minutes off for a couple of stops we made along the way. One, was in Kamloops, so Paulette could check out Katja's Quilting Store as she had heard it was not to be missed. Paulette agreed it was an incredible store but a bit on the pricey side. So, I was glad to see she only had a small bag in her hand when she came back to the truck.

Leaving Vancouver, it was a nice 72 degrees at 9:00am. By the time we had reached the summit of the Coquihalla Higway it was still only 76 degrees, however 90 minutes later as we drove down into Kamloops, the temperature had rocketed all the way up to 98 degrees - just shows what some mountains separating the coast from the interior can do.

As for the KOA here in Sicamous, I'm afraid I have to give it a failing grade. The simple reason is, I was told they have WIFI, but it turns out it's only available in the clubhouse. To my way of thinking, this means they don't have WIFI! Even in the clubhouse the WIFI is brutally slow. The park is nice enough, and clean enough, has full service pull-thrus but the WIFI thing really annoys me.

By 7:00pm, a bit of a breeze had cooled things down just a bit, so we were able to sit outside for a great dinner of hot dogs. Later, we watched a DVD - the Robin Williams movie "RV" - it's still pretty funny no matter how many times we see it.

After the movie, it was off to bed as it was a pretty long day and we were all pretty tired. Rylie really enjoyed her first campground experience though. She didn't know where to head first on her walk. She was really excited about seeing so many people, other dogs and new things, she just ran around in circles. Rylie is going to be a great little camping dog!

Today, we're heading for Skookumchuck, B.C. which is only about 5 hours from here. The campground we're booked into is supposed to have a good WIFI system - we'll see. However, we can't complain, our first day on the road was just great!
