Hayley’s Birthday and a New Dell Windows 7 Laptop

Yesterday was our daughter Hayley’s 25th birthday – Happy Birthday Hayley!  Paulette was a little sad as Hayley is no longer living here so she was unable to spend the day with her.  But, the good news is, Hayley has just moved from Ottawa, ON to Calgary, AB, so she is now a lot closer to home – just a short 90 minute WestJet flight away.

Here is Hayley dancing at her sister’s wedding….I don’t think she sat out one dance!Hayley dancing with Mikayla at Erin's Wedding in July/09

Paulette beat me to the punch yesterday with her blog congratulating Hayley on her birthday. After reading it, I thought there was no way I could ever do any better, so I’m just going to use an excerpt from what Paulette wrote in her post.  It’s great having two bloggers in the family:

“Happy Birthday Hayley!!  My baby turns 25 today!  Yikes how did that happen? It seems like only yesterday when she sat colouring at the kitchen table in her witch’s costume!  Oh, how she loved dressing in costumes!  Time certainly does fly….”

Put the camera away and get out of my face! Hayley hates having her picture takenHayley was a bridesmaid at Erin's wedding in July/09

“I can read her mind here….she is thinking…Put the camera away and get out of my face!  (Hay hates having her picture taken!)  Happy Birthday, Hayley!  Wish we could spend the day with you and help you celebrate….The hardest part about being a parent…having your kids move away to get on with their own dreams…You want them to dream big BUT you want them to dream close by…some things are not meant to be….but maybe someday!”

It’s not all sad though as Hayley had a great birthday – even without us!  Imagine that!  Hayley, her boyfriend Dan, sister Erin and her husband Rhett, all went out for a nice Italian Restaurant dinner last night.  For dessert, they had a whole Tupperware container of Paulette’s great chocolate chip cookies that had arrived in the mail just in the nick of time!

win7_180x320_enAlthough the official release date for Microsoft’s Windows 7 Operating System is Thursday, Oct. 22, I’ve been checking Dell’s  website for the past week anticipating that they would be taking orders before that date.  Sure enough, Monday morning, the wait was over and all their new computers, loaded with Windows 7, were available to customize and order.

Now, if you’ll remember from an earlier blog of mine, this new Dell Inspirion laptop is going to be for Paulette – her very first brand new computer of any kind.  That’s what I get for convincing her to start her own Quilting Blog – now, I’ve got a computer addict who wants the best, fastest laptop she can get, instead of the old reliable “..as long as it does e-mail o.k., I don’t care what kind of computer it is”.  Computer life was so much simpler then – at least for me!

No bag was the right bag! The most frustrating part of ordering the new laptop was trying to decide on a carrying bag.  Dell had dozens of different styles and colors to choose from, and guess what?  Paulette didn’t like any of them!  So, after about 15 minutes of haggling, humming and hawing, we submitted the order “sans bag”.  Good grief!!  It’s just a bag – who cares???  Paulette is going to go shopping, by herself, for a “suitable” laptop carrying bag!

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day as all we had to do was take Molly to the Vet for a scheduled shot of some kind.  The Vet gave her the shot, checked her over, and declared Molly healthy, fit and all set to go for our trip down south in just a few months!
