After a few months off due to summer vacations, our ‘old retired guys’ group got together again for lunch yesterday. Since the four of us, Dave, Nirmal, Cliff and myself, retired together in 1999, we’ve been meeting for lunch once a month just to keep in touch. I worked with each of these guys for over 25 years so it’s great to get together once in a while to talk about anything and everything.
All pictures here taken in our backyard in late October, 2008Lunch was especially nice yesterday, as I didn’t have to drive all the way down to Victoria. Instead, we went to Just Jake’s in nearby Duncan - only 15 minutes away. Each month, one of us get’s to pick the restaurant and this time it was Cliff’s turn. Since he lives in Duncan, he decided to make the Victoria guys drive up to our neck of the woods for a change – good move, Cliff!
Dave and his wife had just returned from a 2 week vacation in Hawaii. He was telling us that they had rented a condo in Waikiki that looked great in all the pictures and promos, but upon arriving found it to be a mouldy dump. They never even stayed a night, instead they moved to a nearby Sheraton Hotel. Luckily, Dave said he was able to get a full $2,500 refund from the condo owner and they were able to enjoy the rest of their holiday. Just another good reason to be an RV’er, I think.
It was cloudy and cool on the Island yesterday, so I never got around to doing any further work on our garage doors. The weather forecast for the weekend, and most of next week, is sunshine and warm weather so I’ll just wait for one of those nice days to show up before getting out the paint brushes.
Other than going for lunch, it was a quiet day at home. I’m still reading Dan Brown’s new book The Lost Symbol – and I’m really enjoying it – still love my Sony eBook Reader. I read for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon and I’ve only got a few chapters left to finish it up.
