Paulette outdid herself yesterday in preparing a wonderful turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, for our Thanksgiving celebration here at home yesterday. Even though we were missing many members of our family, who were out of town, we still managed to have a great time and really enjoyed all the great food.

We would normally start dinner sometime between 5-6pm on Thanksgiving but yesterday we moved it back to 3pm to allow everyone to drive back home, to Victoria, before it got dark. If you are not used to driving the Malahat at night, it can be a little tricky even though it is a very good highway.
A few dishes - mashed potatoes, cheese & broccoli bake, stuffing and baked yamsSo, what did we have for dinner? Too much of everything if my plate was any example. We had mashed potatoes and gravy, cheese and broccoli bake, stuffing, baked yams, peas, carrots, beets, cranberry sauce and, of course, turkey. As if all that wasn’t enough, Paulette also made a great tasting “Filo Pastry” pizza with cheese, tomatoes, onions and peppers, as an appetizer while we were chatting prior to dinner.
This “Turkey Roaster” is a terrific addition to any kitchenPaulette cooked the 20lb turkey in our Nesco electric roaster and, as usual, it was cooked to absolute perfection. We’ve used this roaster for several years now and Paulette just loves it as it frees up our oven for all the other baking that needs to be done during the day. This model will hold a turkey up to 22lbs and it has temperature settings all the way up to 450F. The turkey just sits on a pull-out rack, no basting is needed, and that’s all there is to it.
My favourite part of dinner was, as usual, dessert. And, Paulette came through in flying colours there too. Saturday night, she baked a Raspberry/Apple Crumble that was to die for. We also had the traditional Pumpkin Pie and both desserts were served with vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect end to a perfect meal.
A anonymous email “mural” arrived a few days ago…..hmm??Finally, a few days ago I received a very nice email with a photo attachment suggesting, and showing in fact, how I should have painted my garage doors. The email was just signed “anonymous” and after checking with the usual suspects, I still have no idea who it is. It looks pretty good though, don’t you think? Unfortunately, I don’t have the talent to do this, and even if I did, Paulette would kill me!
