It was just wild in our kitchen last night as Paulette’s Sorority group met here for their regular bi-weekly meeting which included Paulette helping each of them to make a Christmas Wreath to take home for themselves, family or friends. There were fir boughs, frames, wire, ribbons and tools all scattered about. During most of this chaos, I was upstairs with Molly and Rylie happily watching TV and browsing on the computer – but, I did venture down briefly to see how things were going and to take a few pictures.
Paulette setup workstations around our kitchen with wire frames to get startedIt was a very long and busy day for Paulette, as she spent Wednesday morning and a bit of the afternoon at her Hand Quilting Club. When she got home, just after 2:00, we unloaded the fir boughs from our utility trailer onto a big, blue tarp. Then, we folded it up and carried the tarp around to the back of the house and put it on the deck right by the outside door to our kitchen.
Here’s Paulette demonstrating the proper techniques for making Christmas WreathsAfter carrying the boughs up to the deck, we took Molly and Rylie to the dog park for their daily visit. It was raining so we didn’t stay too long, besides there was still a bit work left to get ready for all the company that would be arriving in just a few hours.
Then, it was everyone to their workstations and get to work! After we got home, Paulette busied herself cleaning up and making last minute preparations for the meeting. We had an early dinner and then settled in to await the onslaught – Paulette figured there would be about 20 women attending the meeting which was scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
Here’s a friend of Paulette's with her finished Wreath – it just needs a few ribbons etc.Sure enough, just before 7:30pm, cars began pulling into our driveway and pretty soon our house was full. As soon as the first doorbell rang, that was the cue for me and the muttzo’s to head upstairs. I thought Rylie might get a little anxious as this is the first time so many people have been in our house since she arrived 6 months ago – but, she was quite happy just to stay upstairs with me.
Paulette thought this was a good way to “fancy up” one of the Wreaths! It seemed to me, that it was pretty quiet for the first hour while they dealt with their regular Sorority business – whatever that is! About 8:30pm though, things got rolling and the noise level downstairs increased dramatically – the wreath making was underway.
The aftermath – just a little bit of sweeping and cleanup to do left!
Just before 10:00pm, some of the ladies began leaving and by 10:15pm, everyone was out and headed home. The kitchen looked exactly how you would expect after everyone cutting up evergreen branches – there were needles everywhere. Looks like we’ve got a bit of sweeping and vacuuming to take care of this morning!
Paulette and I want to wish all of our American friends a very Happy Thanksgiving – enjoy that Turkey Dinner and especially the time spent with your family and friends.
In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving on the 2nd Monday of October, so our Turkey dinner is but a distant memory now. But, I do get to enjoy one other US Thanksgiving tradition and that’s NFL football games, so I’ll be looking forward to that today. So, now we’re back in sync – on to Christmas!
Have a great Thanksgiving Day, and thanks again for visiting!
