The only for sure thing I had on my schedule yesterday was taking our ‘07 Silverado Duramax into the local GM dealership for an oil and filter change. The appointment was for 10:30am, so that gave me lots of time to relax with my normal morning routine of checking blogs, news and emails. I never like rushing around in the morning as it feels too much like getting ready to go to work.
1930 Chevrolet Coupe – 6 cylinder, 3 speed standard transmissionPeter Baljet, the GM dealership where I bought my Silverado, has a very interesting showroom. Along with new cars, they have a great collection of classic autos as well. The 1930 Chevrolet Coupe above, is an original Vancouver Island car, has only 31,431 miles on it, still has its original interior and was re-painted only once – in 1962. The owner traded this classic in on a brand new Chev Impala – I wonder why? The Coupe is not for sale now!
1949 3/4 ton, Chevrolet pick-up with a six-cylinder engineHere’s another beauty – a 1949, 3/4 ton Chevrolet pick-up with a 6 cylinder engine and 4 speed standard transmission. The owner of this classic traded it in on a Duramax Diesel truck – at least he kept his good taste!!
How about taking this baby for a little test drive around the block? They also had a couple of vintage Corvette’s including this 1966 427 Stingray. I understand both of the Corvette’s are for sale but I didn’t even bother to ask. The sticker price wasn’t on the window, so I just took that as a sign it was way out of my league.
1966 Corvette 427 StingrayAfter looking at the classic cars for a bit, I walked across the street to the new Duncan Commons shopping center. There are a lot of stores there that I like to wander through including a Super WalMart, Canadian Tire, Home Depot and Rona(Canadian version of Home Depot). There also happens to be a Tim Horton’s, so I had to stop in there for a coffee and a donut!
Somenos March Wetland Conservation across from the GM dealershipAfter spending 90 minutes looking, and not buying, I walked back over to the dealership where my truck was all washed and ready to go. I had asked the GM guy to give everything a good check over as this was going to be our last service before heading south next month. He assured me that everything looked good and they found nothing to be concerned about. The truck only has 42,000 miles(70,000kms) on it so it should be in good shape!
While I was at the GM dealership, Paulette was down in Victoria for a day of Christmas shopping. Our plan is to cut way back on spending this year – we’ll see, that’s been our plan for the past several years. We had another beautiful, sunny day Friday – the second one in a row. It’s been a nice respite from all the rain we’ve been having this November.
Have a great Saturday, and thanks again for visiting.
