Seven Feathers in Canyonville, OR

We pulled into the Seven Feathers RV Resort in Canyonville, OR just after 2pm Wednesday.  It was sunny and warm – 50F!  What a change from last night when it was 32F and snowing in Centralia, WA.  No problems at all today as I-5 was completely clear all the way with some snow on the side of the road in a few places.

We left Centralia at 8am Wednesday morning.  It had rained a lot overnight so the snow was all washed away.  When we got on I-5 and headed towards Portland we could pretty much tell we weren’t going to have any snow problems at all.  The freeway was good – bare and wet with some accumulations of snow on the shoulders and ditches but that was it.

We arrived in Portland at 10am in a drizzling rain.  I didn’t take the bypass route, opting instead to take I-5 right through downtown.  The traffic was extremely light and we were over the bridges and out of the city in less than 15 minutes.

Paulette and Rylie enjoying a walk in the snow at a rest stop south of PortlandIMG_3824 Other than stopping for diesel once, we also stopped at 2 rest stops in Oregon to give the dogs a run and to stretch our legs a bit.  The further south we drove the warmer it got, at one point the temperature hit 54F and the sun was shining.

This was a beautiful rest stop – even with  the snowIMG_3826 Seven Feathers RV Resort is probably the nicest RV park we’ve ever stayed at.  It’s absolutely spotless and has all the park amenities one could ask for – including free “smokin’ hot WiFi”.  After unhitching the truck and getting the 5’er all set up, we decided to take a run into the little town of Canyonville.  Not much there except for gas stations, restaurants and a few touristy shops.  The big casino is definitely the draw in Canyonville.

Finally, near Eugene, OR – a rest stop with green grass and it was warmIMG_3828

With such a beautiful afternoon, I had high hopes for clear sailing over the Siskiyou’s Thursday morning but it looks like that’s not to be.  A Winter Storm Warning has been put into effect from 1 Am to 4 Pm  Thursday with 7 to 14 inches of snow expected in the Siskiyous.  So, it looks like it’s time to pull out Plan B.

Plan B will take us down to Grants Pass, OR, about 45 minutes south of where we are now.  From there, we’ll take Hwy 199 out to Crescent City, CA and follow Hwy. 101 down to Willits, CA where we plan to stop for the night.  The drive from Grants Pass to Crescent City takes about 90 minutes and once we’re on the California coast, I’m thinking our snow worries should be over.

We didn’t even bother going over to the Seven Feathers Casino last night.  We’re not gamblers and the last time I was in a casino the smoke nearly choked me – who needs that anyway?  We just stayed in, watched some TV, wrote our blogs and went to bed early to read for a bit and think about what kind of new adventure we’re in for Thursday.

We bought a couple of loaves of great bread at this shop in CanyonvilleIMG_3835

Have a great New Year’s Eve, and thanks again for visiting!
