It was still raining when we got up Thursday morning but at least there is a ray of sunshine in the near future – actually, lots of “rays of sunshine”! The storms are forecast to pass thru the area by Friday night and we are then supposed to be in for a return to normal Palm Springs weather – yahoo!!
Ramon Rd. & Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs yesterdayAnd, speaking of weather, I saw this “Ancient Weather Rock” at the Cabot Pueblo Museum yesterday. I think every TV weatherperson should have one on display in the studio when giving us weather forecasts. The inscription explaining how the Weather Rock works is below the picture.
Ancient Weather Rock – Rock is never Wrong| When Rock is wet, it’s Raining When Rock is White, it’s Snowing When Rock is hard to see, it’s Foggy When Rock is moving, it’s Windy or an Earthquake Rock is Never Wrong |
We had to change our regular routine Thursday morning as it was too wet to take Molly and Rylie to the dog park at the usual time of 8am. It was close to 10am by the time the rain let up enough to venture out but even then there was still a constant drizzle. As I was walking around it felt just like being home in Victoria, B.C. in January – almost exactly the same. So, as soon as I got back to the RV, I checked the weather network to compare – and bingo, exactly the same – at least at 10am!! Who’d of guessed that?
| Victoria, B.C. & Palm Springs, CA Weather – Thursday, 10am |
The good news in the above forecasts is that Palm Springs will definitely get a lot warmer than Victoria over the next week with temperatures here getting back up into the high 70’s by early next week. Interestingly, the lows will be about the same. For those reading this blog back home on the Island, at least you can take some comfort in the fact that we have had to endure some of the same weather patterns as you – at least for a few days!!
| This is Paulette’s just finished ‘Wall Hanging Quilt’ |
We were running short on groceries, so Paulette made a run into Trader Joe’s, and a few other places I’m sure, to pick up something for dinner and to keep us going for the next few days. I got the chance to hang out with the muttzo’s and continue reading my Greg Isles book which I’m about half way through. I still have about a half dozen or so new books stored on my Sony eBook so I don’t have to worry about running out of anything to read for a while.
Hopefully, just one more day and we’ll be back to this!Paulette got back at 12:30 saying she never did get to Trader Joe’s down on Hwy 111 as the Gene Autry Trail was flooded. It’s right in the middle of the desert so that was no great surprise as that seems to be where all the water accumulates when it rains. After lunch, I was interested in seeing just how much water was around and decided to take a drive and see for myself.
Another display of the items for sale at the Cabot PuebloI took the same route down the Gene Autry Trail and although there were some flooded parts, it wasn’t too bad. I was glad to be driving my big Silverado Diesel instead of a small passenger car though! Once I got past the Palm Springs Airport, it was easy going as the road was a bit higher. I turned left when I got to Hwy. 111 and Trader Joe’s was just a few blocks away.
Front Gun Turret of the Mitchell B25 BomberOn the way back, I stopped in and visited the Palm Springs Air Museum as Paulette had already said she had no interest in it. It was a pretty good deal for the admission fee of $10. There are 3 spotless hangers full of mostly WWII vintage aircraft, automobiles and other artifacts related to the Second World War. It was a very interesting place – I took lots of pictures which I’ll feature in an upcoming blog.
Have a great Friday, and thanks again for visiting!
