It was a beautiful Saturday here in Desert Hot Springs – another sunny and warm day. As usual on Saturday mornings, I drove Paulette around to look for any garage sale’s. The first place we stumbled upon was an RV Retirement Park just down Dillon Rd. a few miles – it was quite a production and a big crowd was already there when we arrived at 9am.
This RV community garage sale even had a breakfast barbeque! They had barbeques out and a couple of guys were busy making breakfasts that looked like Egg McMuffins – only better. There was also a guy with a guitar singing country music which was a little hard to listen to at 9am!! The prices were pretty good too – bikes for $10 and recliners for $20. Luckily, we didn’t have any room for the big stuff so Paulette just ended up buying some small “junk”!!
A country and western singer at 9am is a little much for me!After that, we drove right into downtown Palm Springs and drove around the ritzy area among the homes of the rich and famous. None of them were having any garage sales today, so we only got to look at some of these beautiful homes from the street. The best thing about going to garage sales around here is being able to walk into the yards to see the grounds and beautiful swimming pools everyone seems to have.
This pic from Marina Dunes is one of my favorites from our first month awayWe ended up driving along Hwy. 111 all the way to Palm Desert. We stopped at a few places along the way, but no great deals were to be found, so we just headed up to I-10 and drove back to the Sands. We just spent the afternoon lounging around outside with the odd bike ride up to the pool for a swim or Jacuzzi.
The Pismo Village RV Park was another favorite and we’ll be returning thereLooking at the calendar, it was just a little over a month ago, Dec. 29th, that we left our home in Cowichan Bay, B.C. to head south for 4 months or so. I started to read back thru our blogs and was really amazed to see how much we’ve done and the interesting sights we’ve seen in just our first month. Here are a few of the highlights I’ve chosen:
- Sailed across Juan de Fuca Straights on the MV Coho
- The Dunes RV Park in Marina, CA – just beautiful
- Toured the Monterey Penninsula
- Enjoyed 3 nights at Pismo Beach Village RV Park
- Visited the Danish city of Solvang
- Toured the Santa Ines Mission in Solvang
- Visited La Purisma Mission in Lompoc
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Visited Cabot’s Pueblo Museum in Desert Hot Springs
- Hiked across the desert at Thousand Palms Oasis
- Visited the Tahquitz Canyon and hiked to the waterfalls
- Visited the unique Slab City near Niland, CA
All in all, we’ve had a terrific time so far, and the list above is just the highlights of our trip. We sure hope the next 3 months are just as busy, exciting and interesting as the first month. But, I guess that is mostly up to us – we’ll do our best!
We’ve also visited lots of nice places in and around Palm SpringsHave a great Sunday, and thanks again for visiting!
