We’ve Made It To Desert Hot Springs, CA

Wednesday, after a beautiful drive from Pismo Beach to Ventura, all along the California coast, we turned east and at 2pm arrived at the Sands RV Resort.  We’ll be spending the next 3 months here just as we have for the past 2 years.  Hopefully, the weather will be as perfect as it was all day today – clear skies and a temperature of 78F this afternoon!

We loved Pismo Beach and will definitely be returningIMG_4200

We pulled out of the Pismo Coast Village RV Park just after 8am and headed down Hwy. 101 towards Santa Barbara.  The traffic was very light and, as usual, there were very few semis which was nice.  Just a few miles south of Solvang, the highway started to hug the coastline and continued that route all the way to Ventura which is just on the outer edge of LA.

Just had to throw in one more display from a candy shop in SolvangIMG_4313

We got to Ventura just after 10am and had to make a decision about which route we were going to take to Desert Hot Springs.  One route would take us east on Hwy. 126, then to Hwy. 14 up near Palmdale before finally heading down to I-10 and on to Desert Hot Springs.  This route would avoid Los Angeles altogether.

Paulette took a few pics of the day’s drive with her Panasonic Lumix P1050194

The other way, we would continue on Hwy. 101 before connecting with Hwy. 134 that would take us right through Thousand Oaks, Burbank and Pasadena before hitting I-10 to Desert Hot Springs.  This route would save us 2 hours but would add the uncertainty of pulling our 5’er thru LA on busy freeways.  So, what to do?

This shot was taken as we approached Ventura, CAP1050168

We charged forward into the “Valley of Darkness”  and, to our great surprise, the traffic was extremely light and we were able to maintain freeway speeds all the way through Los Angeles from Thousand Oaks on the west side to Pomona on the east, where we turned on to I-10 heading towards Palm Springs.  It turned out to be a good decision – maybe it was just a lucky one, but it worked out great!

Very light traffic on the freeway as we passed the ABC building in BurbankP1050213

The only stop we made today was at the Camping World store in Riverside.  We bought one of those small folding bikes they have for $139.  Paulette really likes riding around and her bike from home was too big to lug down here.  This one will be perfect for riding around in our RV Park – especially back and forth to the swimming pool!  I just have to put it all together now!

Once we registered at the Sands RV office, we drove down to Pebble Beach Dr. and I backed the 5’er into site 374 – this will be our 3rd consecutive year at this same site.  We both like it because it has hedges on each side of us, is flat level and the WiFi repeater is on a tower about 20 ft. from us so we always get a good Internet connection.

After 8 days, we see the sign saying Desert Hot SpringsP1050220

We brought along enough 30 inch high folding dog-fences to completely enclose our outside sitting area.  I got those installed right away so we don’t have to worry about Molly and Rylie taking off on us.  Molly probably wouldn’t go far, but Rylie?  We can both just see her racing down the road singing “Born Free”!!

So, our outside carpets are down, the dog-fences are up, the barbeque table is set-up, the lawn chairs are out – I think we’re all set to enjoy a nice 3 months here.  All we need now is for the great weather we’ve experienced so far in California to continue.

Have a great Thursday, and thanks again for visiting!
