Another Sunny, Sunday In The Desert

It was another near perfect day here in the desert yesterday with temperatures in the 70’s and not a cloud in the sky.  That’s probably why I never left the RV Park – it was just too nice here to go driving around anywhere.

Heading back from the pool is always nice with the beautiful sceneryIMG_4940

Sunday was a pretty laid back day – go to the dog park, the swimming pool, lay outside in the sun and read, plus a few small maintenance items(emptying tanks).  That was about it.  There weren’t even any football games on TV except for the NFL Pro Bowl which hardly counts as a real game.

But, I do have a new tech gizmo to talk a little about – the Cradlepoint 350 mobile cellular router.  It’s about the size of a deck of cards so it easily fits in a shirt pocket.  We already have the excellent Cradlepoint MBR1000 cellular router so why the 350?

While the MBR1000 is a great cellular router, and we’re perfectly happy with it, it’s not exactly what you might call mobile.  It’s about the size of most home routers like the Linksys and isn’t something you want to be lugging around in your vehicle.  I’d rather just leave it in our RV instead of unplugging and hauling it around.

I wanted something that would allow me to connect my Apple iTouch to the Internet in areas where I couldn’t get a free WiFi signal.  With the 350, I just plug my Verizon USB760 into the 350 and I have a perfect, mobile “WiFi Hotspot”.

This sure saves lugging a laptop around or even the MBR1000 just to allow use of my iTouch.  Now, I can just put my iTouch and the CRT350 in the truck, or my pockets, and I have my own “hotspot” anywhere I go.  This will really come in handy while traveling when we need to access the Internet for information – with the iTouch, we have our own pocket-sized Apple Mac!

Another favorite pic from January – the pounding surf at Marina DunesIMG_4068

First thing Monday morning I have to take the truck into Jessup Auto for some routine maintenance – oil, lube and filter.  I’ve taken the truck in their the last 2 years and they always do a good job and do it fast, plus they always wash the truck too.  That’s especially good this year as it really needs washing.

Another pic I really like is this one taken from the pier at W.R. Hearst ParkIMG_4262

We have one big trip planned for this week, that I know of, and that’s down to San Diego on Tuesday.  Paulette has a few Quilt Stores that she really wants to visit and while she’s doing that I’m going to check out the San Diego de Alcala Mission and then drive over the 2.1 mile long Coronado Bridge that connects San Diego to Coronado Island.  That is going to be an interesting day!

Have a great Monday, and thanks again for visiting!
