I was sitting outside around 11am yesterday morning, just reading and relaxing when a guy pulled up riding a beautiful looking red scooter. I knew right away it was Retired Rod, aka known as Rod Ivers who arrived at the Sands RV Park yesterday with his wife Loyce.
Here’s Rod trying to find a bit of shade at our place yesterdayRod is now the second RV blogger that Paulette and I have had the pleasure of meeting since we’ve been here in Palm Springs. About a month ago, Randy and Pam Warner popped in for a quick visit one afternoon. Rod and Loyce are booked in here for 9 days as he said that was the longest time available right now.
Rod’s all set to go for a ride on his perfect, park scooter!Rod and I chatted for about an hour, talking about RV’ing, blogs, quilting wives and what we’ve each been up to on this year’s travels. Paulette was at her quilting group this morning, but arrived back just as Rod was getting set to head back to his site, just a couple of rows away. Since Loyce is also an avid quilter, I’m sure they’ll have a lot in common to talk about when all of us can get together.
The Sands RV Park owners manned the BBQ pitsWednesday got off to a bit of an earlier start than usual for us – 6am to be exact. Paulette’s quilting club was starting at 8am instead of the normal 10am. This change was to allow any of them who wished, to attend the Annual Owners’ Appreciation BBQ up at the pool from noon until 2pm.
The swimming pool patio was a favourite spot for lunchThe original plan was for Paulette to drop off her sewing machine and stuff here at noon and then go up to the BBQ with the other ladies. That was just fine with me as I don’t really care for these big organized fun events anyway. But, those plans went awry as all the women scattered. So, Paulette said she didn’t want to go by herself and she would just stay home, no big deal.
A lot of hungry people showed up for hamburgers and hot dogsWell guys, you all know how that goes, right? I told Paulette I would be just thrilled to go to the BBQ as it’s always been one of my most favorite things to do on a sunny, hot, 85F day! Once there, we were offered a hamburger or hot dog, barbequed beans and salad. We were lucky to find a nice table, in the shade, right by the swimming pool.
Besides the pool, the area outside the clubhouse was a popular spotWe stayed for about an hour and chatted with a couple who happened to be from a small town just outside of Edmonton, AB. The chances of running into either an American or a Canadian in this park are about 50/50. About 90% of the Canadians are from either B.C. or Alberta.
John, one of the full-time residents, taking his kids to the BBQThe BBQ wrapped up about 2pm, so we waited until then to head up to the pool for a swim. We hit it just right as the pool area was pretty quiet and there were only a half dozen or so swimmers in the water. It was a perfect way to cool off on another scorching hot day here in the desert.
Have a great Thursday, and thanks again for visiting!
