The sun was shining when we got up Friday morning and there wasn’t a breath of wind – blue skies as far as we could see. It was going to be another perfect desert day. We planned to take a quick run down to Hemet, CA, about 45 minutes away, so Paulette could go to a Quilt Show there. But first, before we could do that, I had a minor problem to deal with.

Late Thursday afternoon, I heard the Aguirre’s Propane truck outside filling up our neighbour’s tank. I rushed outside, unhooked one of our 30lb tanks, it was empty, and carried it over and asked the guy if he could fill ours up too. He said “sure”, but when he connected the hose and tried to fill it – nada, zilch! Something was wrong with the valve on our propane tank. So, now I had a little task for the morning – get if fixed somehow!
I decided to take it to the Blair Station RV store down on Dillon Rd. to see if they had the proper valve and could perhaps install it. Blair did have the proper valve but told me they are not licensed to install and certify it. He also told me the same thing the Aguirre guy said and that was I might find it difficult finding a licensed propane valve installer anywhere in the area. I knew that!
After thinking about my options, I bought a brand new 30lb tank from Blair for $75. The valve, plus installation, would probably have ended up costing at least half that plus all the running around just to find a place. Our tank was almost 10 years old so I guess it was due for replacement anyway.
I got back to the park at 10am, picked up Paulette and the muttzo’s, and we all headed off to Hemet where I dropped Paulette off at the Community Centre just before 11am. We agreed on 2 hours, so I headed off with Molly and Rylie to have a look around the town of Hemet.
There are a few huge RV Parks in the area and I know a lot of RV’ers rave about Hemet and just love it. I can’t say I share that opinion even though, I admit, it was a pretty quick tour. Maybe it’s just the fact that Hemet is more of an agricultural and ranching area instead of in the desert which I prefer. In any event, just driving through, and now looking around, I don’t really see anything that is particularly appealing.
We arrived back at the Community Centre in time to pick up Paulette and we then drove right back to Desert Hot Springs. We arrived just before 2pm and the temperature was 76F – just perfect! As soon as we got organized, it was off to the pool for a few hours of fun in the sun!
After that, I sat outside and read for a bit before dinner. Last night, we watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympic Games. We thought it was actually pretty good as far as Opening Ceremonies go.
Have a great Saturday, and thanks again for visiting.
