A Beautiful Day For An Outside Happy Hour

Paulette and I were invited to a Happy Hour yesterday by some neighbours here in the park.  It was nice to meet more folks who we’ve seen around but have only said hi to as we were walking around the park, at the pool or even the dog park.  It helped that it was a perfect weather day too.

It was a beautiful afternoon for an outside “Happy Hour”IMG_5514

When we walked over about 4:30pm, there were already quite a few people there just sitting on chairs in the driveway or standing around outside chatting and really enjoying themselves.  Paulette and I had a great time, and we all watched the sunset over the San Jacinto Mtns. before calling it an evening and heading home.

Earlier Thursday morning, we had a very nice surprise.  Paulette was just leaving the clubhouse shower about 9am, when a woman approached asking if she was Paulette, the author of the Sweet P Quilting Blog?  Paulette was kind of flabbergasted as that’s the first time she’s ever been acknowledged like that.

But, she collected herself and said, indeed she was.  Then, the woman introduced herself as Renee, a follower of both of our blogs.  She lives on Salt Spring Island which we can see from our house – another one of those “isn’t it a small world moments”.

When Paulette told me she had met Renee, I knew exactly who she was talking about because she is kind enough to leave frequent comments on my blog.  Renee  is staying just a few rows down from us here in the Sands RV Park and will be here for about another week with her husband, Peter and their little dog Winnie.

Renee mentioned to Paulette that their brand new HP Laptop computer was completely dead.  It wouldn’t turn on no matter how many times, or for how long, you pressed the power on button and she wondered if I might be able to have a quick look at it.  I was more than happy to do that, especially since I already had a good idea what the problem might be.

Renee and Peter are both very nice and it was great to meet them.  It’s fun being able to put faces on so many of the people I’ve been talking to since I started my  blog this past May.  As for her laptop, it indeed was dead - nada, zilch!  The power button did nothing – time to panic??  No way – this is fun stuff!

Here's a little tip to remember if this same problem ever happens with your laptop – remove the battery pack completely – that’s the secret!  Then, plug your A/C adapter into the wall socket and press the power on button – it should start right up!  That’s exactly what I did with Renee’s laptop and it started up immediately, went through some error correction sequence, then right into Windows 7.  I reinstalled the battery, unplugged the A/C adapter and rebooted and it worked too so everything was back to normal.

So, how come just removing the battery pack works?  I don't really know except to say this particular issue is not uncommon.  Somehow, between the battery and the A/C power, the computer gets confused about the startup sequence and refuses to obey commands from either source.  So, eliminating one power source, the battery, seems to establish its brain cells so it can think again.  How's that for a great technical explanation?

poulin And, congratulations to the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team for beating the USA 2-0 to win their 3rd consecutive Olympic Gold Medal.

Well done and now let’s see if the Men’s Hockey Team can follow up their recent great play by beating Slovakia Friday night and thus advance to the Gold Medal game this Sunday.

Have a great Friday, and thanks again for visiting.
