We hit the weather jackpot yesterday – it was just perfect from early morning until the sun went down just before 6pm. It looks like we’re in for another run of sunny, hot weather here so that’s great. The afternoon temperature reached 76F – yahoo!!
A kid’s water park outside the Mary Pickton Theatre in Cathedral CityI was out and on the road just after 7am yesterday on my way to Jessup Motors in Cathedral City. On Wednesday, while I was backing our Silverado into our RV site, I heard a strange “chirping, squeaking noise” coming from the left front wheel. I drove around the park for a bit, and sure enough, the noise was there whenever I turned the wheel. Now what?
The theatre lobby features a Mary Pickford memorabilia sectionI phoned Jessup Motors, the GM dealer in Cathedral City, and made an appointment to bring it in first thing Thursday so they could take a look at it. The technician I talked to, Hector, said it could be a wheel hub or bearing problem. I arrived at the dealer’s just before 8am and after signing the work order, I settled into the waiting lounge for what I expected to be a 2 hour wait.
To my complete surprise, the tech guy returned in just 15 minutes carrying a very small rock(see picture comparison to a quarter) in his hand. He said “here’s what was causing the noise. This rock was stuck in one of the brake calipers.” Hector told me they inspected the whole brake system and the rock hadn’t done any damage so I was good to go – and, they didn’t charge me a cent for fixing it. That news just made my day!!
I stopped at the nearby Mary Pickford Theatre to have a look but I was back at our RV Park before 9am, just in time to join Paulette, Molly and Rylie down at the dog park. The entire RV park was just humming with activity as people were out walking, the golf course was full and a lot of people were headed up to the pool to grab loungers and good spots to soak up the morning sunshine.
The Mary Pickford Theatre is still a regular, operating theatre with daily showsAs soon as we got back, I grabbed my eBook and headed outside, got comfortable in a lounger and read for a good two hours. I think my eyes might have closed for a minute or two during that time. It was already 70F and it wasn’t even noon yet.
After lunch, we piled the muttzo’s into the back of the truck and went for a drive, with no particular place in mind. We ended up on Indian Canyon Rd. which happened to take us right into downtown Palm Springs. We did a quick tour of the ritzy homes north of Palm Canyon Rd. just looking to see if any were for sale – ha, ha!! As if!!!
It was barbequed hamburgers for dinner last night! We headed back to the RV Park after that arriving around 2pm. That gave me an hour to head up to the pool and go for a swim before it was time to take the muttzo’s back to the dog park for their afternoon rendezvous with all their doggy friends.
I fired up the barbeque last night as it was still pretty warm out at 5:30. Paulette made up some hamburgers and that was our dinner – with a couple of salads. They were sure good and we made a few extras to nuke for another day.
The Winter Olympics begin in Vancouver, B.C. on Friday. There’s been a lot of conjecture about who will get the honour of lighting the Olympic Torch during the Opening Ceremonies. I’m going with the greatest hockey player in NHL history - #99, Wayne Gretzky. Now that I’ve put the “kiss of death” on The Great One, I wonder who’ll it’ll be?
Have a great Friday, and thanks again for visiting!
