It was still windy here Monday morning and calm conditions weren’t expected until later in the day. That didn’t matter much to us though as we’d already arranged a day trip with fellow blogger Rod and his wife Loyce. Guess where? To a few quilt shops, of course!
Paulette mentioned to Loyce, who is also an avid quilter, that 2 of her all-time favourite quilt shops just happen to be located in Old Town Temecula – and, it’s only an hour’s drive from our RV Park. That settled it, we arranged to pick them up at 9:30am Monday morning.
After dropping Molly and Rylie off at Toni’s, we picked Rod and Loyce up in our truck and headed west on Dillon Rd. to connect with the I-10 which would take us to Beaumont and from there down the I-215 to Temecula. Unfortunately, I took the wrong on ramp and there we were heading full speed right back to Palm Springs… oops!
Here we are, all ready to dig into our Mad Madeline’s burgers!
After getting turned around at the next off ramp, we were once again headed in the right direction on I-10, but again, I made a wrong turn and ended up going north on I-215 instead of south. I’ve driven this a dozen times and couldn’t figure out what was going on unless it was because I was so busy talking with Rod in the front passenger seat that I wasn’t paying much attention to the road signs.
At this point, Paulette suggested that I might want to plug “Gidget the Gadget”, our GPS, in and let her take us to Temecula. Without argument, I agreed and soon we were on the right path. When we arrived in Temecula, just after 11am, we dropped Paulette and Loyce off at the Quilters’ Coop and arranged to pick them up there at 1pm.

In the meantime, Rod and I went for a walk along Front St. in Old Town and looked at a few of the unique shops and stores. We soon found a Starbuck’s and decided to have a coffee and chat while waiting for the shoppers to finish up. It was nice to get inside and sit down for a bit just to get out of the wind. It wasn’t blowing that hard in Temecula, but it had just enough of a bite to make it a little chilly. It was sunny all day though with clear skies so that was good.
At 1:00pm, we met Paulette and Loyce and decided to have lunch before heading back to the RV Park. I suggested Mad Madeline’s Grill, who promote being the “First Place Winner of the Great California Hamburger Hunt”! Everyone readily agreed, so off we went for lunch to Temecula’s most popular burger joint.

We had a choice of 18 different burgers to choose from and got no real help from our waitress when we asked her which one was the best? She just laughed and said “they’re all good”. So, we each picked a burger and guess what? She was right – Mad Madeline’s burgers are as good as they come. It was a great lunch with a lot of laughs going around and when we were finished and ready to roll, Rod quickly grabbed the bill from the waitress and said he was buying. I protested briefly, knowing it was hopeless, but Rod was hearing none of it. So, Rod and Loyce, we thank you again for your kindness and generosity.
Feeling pretty full, we climbed back into the truck, found Hwy. 79 and headed north. We made a quick 15 minute stop in Hemet to let Paulette and Loyce check out the only quilt store in town and then we were back on the road and heading for Desert Hot Springs.
We got back to the RV Park about 3:45pm, dropped off Rod and Loyce at their site and then drove just up the road to pick up Molly and Rylie. They were, of course, happy to see us and ran right to the truck and jumped in the back seat ready to go home.
Last night, we just snacked a bit for dinner as we were still full from those great burgers at Madeline’s. We watched some of the Olympics as there doesn’t seem to be much else on these nights.
Have a great Tuesday, and thanks again for visiting!
