For some strange reason, the first thing I thought of when I woke up Monday morning was “only 3 weeks left here and then we have to leave”. What a revolting development that is! Luckily for us though, we won’t be heading home right away as we will still have a full month of exploring the southwest and more before we actually head back to our home on Vancouver Island, B.C.

We never left the RV Park Monday as it was another picture perfect day here in Desert Hot Springs. This gave me the chance to sit outside in the morning with my laptop to review our travel plans and to make some changes resulting from some new information we’ve received since we’ve been here.
The Carlsbad Caverns have been on our “to do” list for several years
So, where did this new information come from? From your blogs of course, where else? The furthest destination point we’ll be traveling to is all the way over to Carlsbad, NM so that we can visit the Carlsbad Caverns. We plan to stay at the Carlsbad KOA while there and that’s exactly where Donna(Our Adventures With Tassie) stayed just a little over a week ago. Donna had nice things to say about the KOA so we’ll just confirm our plans to stay there – thanks, Donna!
Another place we are looking forward to is White Sands in New Mexico
After we spend a few days exploring the Carlsbad Caverns and other attractions, we’ll be heading up through Roswell, NM and then on to Alamagordo where we plan to stay at the the Boot Hill RV Park. This park has been recommended this year by quite a few bloggers we read including Al of The Bayfield Bunch and again Donna(Our Adventures With Tassie).
We plan to visit the alien museum etc. in Roswell and while in Alamagordo we’ll be sure to check out the White Sands Monument. We got a great preview of the White Sands from John’s Through Gates of Grace blog. John showed some spectacular photos of the White Sands and the powdered gypsum dunes. It is so white, it almost looks like some of the pictures are actually snow. This is something Paulette and I are definitely looking forward to seeing, so thanks for the preview, John!
Santa Fe, NM – another of our many destination points
After leaving Alamagordo, we are going to head back to Las Cruces, NM for a stay there before heading up to Albuquerque. We’ll probably stay in Albuquerque for 3 nights and while there we’ll spend a day or so visiting Santa Fe as it is a place we’ve always wanted to see. I’m sure Paulette will love all the local crafts there.
The Arches National Park looks terrific – looking forward to this
I guess by this time, we’ll probably have to think about heading north back towards Canada. But first, we’ll still have a couple of great stops – one in Moab, where we’ll tour the Arches National Park and finally Salt Lake City and all there is to see in that great city.
So, as much as we’ll hate to leave the Sands RV Resort here in Desert Hot Springs, we will be seeing some great places and sights before we have to make our final trek home. And, in addition to all the great places I’ve mentioned in this blog, Paulette will track down every available Quilt Store along the route.
