All is well again with the weather here in the Coachella Valley as by early Friday morning the winds, which had been blowing pretty hard for a few days, stopped completely. When I looked out our kitchen window early yesterday and saw the Wind Turbines out in the desert completely still, i knew it was going to be a great day, and it was!
This was more like it – a beautiful, sunny morning – with no windPaulette and her friend Pauline took off at 9:30am Friday morning to go to a Quilt Show somewhere in Palm Springs. By a strange coincidence, Pauline’s husband’s first name is Richard – like mine. Just thought I’d throw that little bit of trivia in today’s blog as we all thought it was kind of unusual.
It was a beautiful morning and I was able to spend most of it sitting outside in one of our lounge chairs. The park was alive again with lots of folks happy to be out walking around again after being cooped up for a few days. Paulette got back from Palm Springs at 12:30 and after lunch, we went up to the pool for a swim.
After that, we spent most of the afternoon just sitting outside and reading. Paulette and I also talked about our plans for staying here next year. We’ve decided to upgrade to one of the sites that backs onto a wash. It certainly offers a lot more room and privacy as there will be no other RV directly behind us – just a big empty wash that will be great for walking Molly and Rylie.
This is what the wash sites look like – lot’s of open space at the backLast night, we went out for dinner with 5 other couples who we meet with each day at the dog park. A few of them are leaving for home some time next week, so we all wanted to get together at least once before we all scattered about.
The Dillon Roadhouse Grill is the place that was picked for our dinner outSomeone mentioned the Dillon Roadhouse Grill which is just about a mile down the road from us. We agreed to meet there about 6pm. Paulette and I had driven by this place a few times and all we ever saw was the big Saloon sign on top of what looked to us like it might be a biker bar as it looked a little seedy. Hidden in the trees though, was the new sign – The Dillon Roadhouse Grill – open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We arrived just before 6pm to find the others already seated at a long table. Once inside and acclimatized to the darkness, the place was quite a bit bigger than it looked from the outside. It was a typical Roadhouse with a bar, booths along the back walls and tables and chairs scattered about a few alcoves. It even had a small dance floor.
It was just our luck that Friday night was the local Karaoke night – and it started early, about 7pm. The Roadhouse appeared to be the hangout for all of the locals – and they were a pretty strange variety. Oddly, they all thought they could sing and everyone from 20 yrs. old to over 70 was up there singing. Even the bartenders took turns at the mike. Let’s just say none of them would make the first cut on American Idol.
By 8pm, Paulette and I turned into party-poopers, said our goodbyes to the rest of our friends and headed for home. Our group, it appeared, was beginning to get in the Karaoke mood along with the locals – a few of them had already had a turn up on the stage. I’m expecting we’ll hear a lot more about the evening when we go to the dog park Saturday.
Have a great Saturday, and thanks again for visiting!
