A big change of plans today – we are staying at the KOA in Apache Junction instead of our original destination the Canyon Vistas RV Park in Gold Canyon – about fifteen minutes from here. The Canyon Vistas park was, from our perspective, a real disappointment because we had planned a two week stay, or more, there.

When we arrived at the gate to Canyon Vistas, we were directed right to our site which was pretty close to the entrance. Apart from the paved roads, everything else was gravel with no trees or plants anywhere. Although it didn’t look that great, we unhooked the truck and I drove up to the office to register. This was the first surprise – the office and clubhouse complex seemed like it was a mile away. Also, that was the only location for restrooms, showers and laundry. The clubhouse and swimming pool complex were beautiful – just like the pics on the internet. But, everything was just too far away.
When I drove back to our site, I tried to see if I could get an internet connection but no luck at all. So, that was the last straw. Paulette didn't like the place at all and neither did I. I went back to the office, got our money back and we were out of there!

We took a short 15 minute drive down the freeway and found a KOA in Apache Junction, just outside of Mesa, where we booked in for the rest of the week. It is much, much better. It’s a small park with a swimming pool, hot tub, a nice store, clean restrooms and showers plus our site is really nice as it has a couple of shade trees and some cactus plants. Also, the wifi connection is really fast.

So, what was supposed to be a short trip from Tucson to Mesa turned into a bit of an ordeal having to hitch, unhitch, hitch and then unhitch again – it made for a tiring day. After getting settled in at the KOA, we went for a drive to see what was nearby and Paulette was happy to see lots and lots of shopping centers – a huge mall, another place with a Ross’, Target, WalMart Supercenter etc. So, that will be enough to keep her busy around here when she isn’t working with her bead bonanza.
Today was the hottest we’ve had so far on our trip – it reached 84F! It is supposed to remain hot in the Phoenix area for the rest of the week. We had to put our air conditioning unit on yesterday. We went for a walk around the park last night after it got dark and it was just like a summer night – about 70F.
Tomorrow, we plan to do some scouting around the area, maybe have a look at some more RV Parks and I’m sure we’ll be dropping by a shopping mall as well.
