A Day at the Quilt Show

Paulette has declared the "Road to California Quilt Show", at the Ontario Convention Center near Los Angeles, the best one she has ever attended- by a mile. She said it was terrific, fantastic, wonderful etc. etc. So, I guess it must have been good, and our vacation is, as a result, now officially a success no matter what else happens.

Paulette was thrilled right from the get-go especially when she walked in and saw Elenor Burns who is apparently the most famous quilter in the world - she has written lots of books on quilting and even has her own tv show. Here's a pic of Paulette with this super-quilter:

Not long after that, Paulette also met another famous quilter by the name of Alex Anderson:

Here's Paulette's report on the Quilt Show as only her fellow quilters will really know what all this stuff means:

They had everything -lots of machines, stalls of different kinds of batting, buttons, trim, beads and the usual fabric and patterns. Yes, there were lots of booths of all the 'things' that WE like. I bought 12 patterns, a square in a square ruler, a book to go with it , a dresden ruler, an easy scallop for scalloping borders and tons of wool felt. There were tons of demos everywhere-hense the rulers, scalloping tool and dresden ruler....hope I can remember how to use them.

The highlight was meeting Elenor Burns (she was so nice-talked to her for a long time-we are going for coffee tomorrow...) and Alex Anderson (she was nice but Elenor was a lot friendlier. ) El was just like she is on TV except she looks WAY more modern and better-didn't tell her that though.... She still has that high pitched voice. Alex was REALLY tanned and very pretty and thin.

All in all, the only thing missing were you girls!!!! You would have loved it. Lots of fabric- all fat quarters were between $1.25 and 2.50 and all fabric was $8-10 a yard. I didn't buy any of that as I will be going to fabric stores along the way and I needed time to think. The wool felt was in bundles for $3-7 and some were in a bin for $1 each. The patterns from the Bareroots booth are- #113 Pretty Maids (this one I LOVED made up but the picture on the pattern I didn't like), #101 Cozy Home Table Runner, #73 Thanksgiving Wall Quilt-very sweet. From the Wooden Spool Booth I bought #173 Christmas Ornies (again looking at the pattern I would not have bought it but made up I loved these darling little ornaments),#151 Christmas Trio, and #160 Flower Pots. From Wooden spools designs- the Dear Santa, I can explain Penny Rug, and Thanksgiving Pumpkin penny rug.

From the Heart to Hand booth I bought their newest pattern #273 Sachet Garden-very nice felting project penny rugs,#263 Two Santas (which I had my eye on from their website- LOVED it made up!!!) Oh and from Bareroots- #99 Camping Quilt -adorable made up. I sent you the names and numbers of the patterns so that you can look them up on their websites as I will give you a copy of each.

It is 27 degrees here....now that I am out of the Conference Centre I can enjoy the sunshine as I look at my new quilting book. At least until I go back for another day at the Quilt Show tomorrow!

That was pretty much it for the day - the big Quilt Show. This campground is very, very quiet - no noise from the I-10 freeway at all.
