Banning, CA - Stagecoach KOA

We left the Needles KOA right at 8:00am this morning for the drive to Banning, CA via Lake Havasu City and Quartzsite. It was another beautiful morning - sunny and warm.

The really big RV Show in Quartzsite begins this weekend and you could sure tell by the number of RV's on the road all heading that way. When we turned west on I-10 at Quartzsite and headed towards Palm Springs, we must have passed a couple of hundred RV's of all sizes headed that way.

It's a nice drive to Palm Springs as most of it is through the desert with very few grades until just before reaching the Coachella Valley:

Palm Springs was hot - 28C! Just like we remembered it from last year. We were kind of wishing we could stop at the Sands RV Resort for a quick swim in the pool. Well, we'll be there next Wednesday and we'll have a full two months to enjoy the great weather - and the pool!

We were really glad to have "gidget" the GPS along to guide us to the Banning KOA as here were absolutely no signs telling us where it was. But "gidget", as usual took us right there saying "you have arrived at your destination" - still amazing.

The Stagecoach KOA here in Banning is a bit smaller than what it looked like on their website, but it is very nice and it is quiet. Interestingly, we look out at the other side of the same mountain range that we see from our rv site the Sands RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs.

We took a 10 minute run down the road to a Walmart Supercenter so I could pick up two Net10 cellphones for use while we are on vacation down here. Telus roaming charges are outrageous and it is quite easy to rack up a bill of over $500 in no time at all. With Net10, we each get a very nice LG colour flip phone and 300 minutes of time each. It only cost $40 for each phone and we get 300 minutes each which is probably more than we will ever use.

Tomorrow is Paulette's big Quilt Show in Ontario, CA which is about 45 minutes from here - it's actually a suburb of Los Angeles. This better be good as she has been looking forward to it for a couple of months now. I'm going to drop Paulette off at the Convention Center about 9:30am and then go back to the Banning KOA with Mo and Molly. It's pretty much the same as driving from Cowichan Bay down to Costco and back - only a whole lot more traffic!

Paulette is going to phone me about an hour before she wants me to pick her up. We're here in Banning until Sunday morning when we will drive back through Palm Springs to Blythe, CA, which is just 20 minutes from Quartzsite and the RV Show. We will be there for three days before heading back to Desert Hot Springs to end our travelling for most of the next two months!
