Our plans not to return to Quartzsite for a second visit to the RV Show, changed early this morning when we received an email, from my brother Tom and his wife Donna, saying they were staying in Quartzsite. So, we decided to go back into Quartzsite to meet them.
We found them where we planned, and then spent about an hour looking at the vendor exhibits. Tom told us that they had bought a new motorhome – a 2004 36’ Fleetwood Pace Arrow. So, we decided to go to their campsite out in the desert, for a look.

Their new motorhome is absolutely great – 3 slideouts, a full side-by-side fridge/freezer, large comfortable leather chairs/sofa, corian countertops in the kitchen and a whole array of other nice features. It sure is huge when compared to their previous rig which didn’t have slideouts at all. This one is like a small apartment!

We got a good look at how people camp in the desert sites managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It’s pretty much drive in and camp anywhere you want as there are miles and miles of desert. This is just one site, but there are dozens of them on all sides of Quartzsite – enough to hold 40-50 thousand RV’s each year. This is by far how most of the rv'ers attending Quartzsite choose to camp, and it works if you have a generator as there are no electrical power sources. A little Honda 15amp generator is on our "wish list" of need to get items.
After visiting for a bit, Paulette and I decided to head back to Blythe as we had to do some grocery shopping before going back to the RV park. We drove into the city of Blythe to have a look around and found a quite small town that looked like it had seen better days – a lot of closed shops and businesses with very few new buildings around.
We are very much looking forward to tomorrow's short 2 hour drive to the Sands RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs. It will be nice to get setup in a semi-permanent location so we can do a proper setup with tables, barbeque, outdoor mats and the pet-fences so Mo and Molly can come and go from the 5th wheel without having to always be on a leash.
